VIRTUAL EXHIBITION ON SPATIAL.IO: "DIALOGUE IN IMAGES – A POST-PANDEMIC EXPERIMENT"

The works created by six artists over the course of two years, starting in March 2022, during the "Dialogue in Images – A Post-Pandemic Experiment" are now on display online at Spatial.io. The exhibition presents both the finished works and various intermediate stages, thus providing a comprehensible account of the creative path from the initial idea to the final work.
For this project, I first created A5-sized works on paper and sprayed them with spray paint. These sheets were then sent to six artist friends and dialogue partners in various cities: to Munich to Jess Walter and Johanna Berüter, both artists; to Hamburg to Johannes Speder, artist; to Berlin to Marlen Böhme, architect; to Zurich to Tabea Schneider, designer; and to Basel to Gabi Hangartner, artist.
The idea was that each recipient would further process the image—be it through painting, drawing, gluing, cutting, or collage. The form and technique of the additions remained entirely open. Only the reference to the original image and the associated dialogue should be clearly recognizable.
After the works were modified, they were mailed back to the original creator, who then further edited the image. This process of continuous development and mutual exchange continued until both parties decided the work was complete.
For example, in dialogue with Gabi Hangartner, a first work evolved into a total of 19 works in 44 steps over the course of two years.
The finished works as well as the various intermediate steps can be seen in this exhibition.
